Most LVP manufacturers don't ship matching stair nosings, which is why so many DIY vinyl stair jobs look like an afterthought. We solve that two ways: factory-color nosings when the mill offers them, and custom-milled nosings cut from the same plank when they don't. Either way, the front edge of every stair matches the tread exactly - no contrast strip, no aluminum trim, no gap.

Vinyl stair installs fail in two ways: poor adhesion (planks lift at the nosing) or an unprepared substrate (every step squeaks). We use polyurethane construction adhesive plus mechanical fasteners hidden behind the nosing, and we level every tread with skim coat before the plank goes down. The result is a staircase that feels rock-solid, with none of the ongoing upkeep.

Vinyl Flooring Stairs - frequently asked questions
Modern LVP is embossed with a low-slip micro-texture rated for stair use. It's more slip-resistant than a smooth painted or sealed stair tread, and holds up just as well as LVT in a commercial setting.
We remove the carpet, padding, staples, and tack strip first, then evaluate the treads. Solid treads get a quick level and the LVP goes on top. Damaged or unstable treads get replaced before we install.
Not when properly installed. We re-secure every tread and add construction adhesive before laying the plank, which actually makes the staircase quieter than it was before.
With a matching nosing - either a factory piece from the LVP manufacturer or one we mill in-house from the same plank. We never use a generic aluminum strip.
