Laminate Stairs Built to Outlast Worn Carpet, at a Fraction of the Cost

Stairs take more daily abuse than almost any other surface in the house, and worn-out carpet on a staircase usually shows it first. Barry's Carpet & Flooring has installed AC4 and AC5 laminate stair systems throughout Hampton Roads for more than 65 years, using matching nosings, padded risers, and finish trim that ties the staircase cleanly into the laminate floor it leads to - all with our own employed crew, never a subcontractor.

Because laminate's wear layer is engineered to take abuse, it's a particularly good option for rentals, second homes, basement and rec-room stairs, and houses with active kids or dogs - and it holds up well through the humidity swings that come with a Hampton Roads summer.

Laminate is a click-lock floating floor in the main room, but on stairs it has to be glued and mechanically fastened. Our crew uses construction adhesive plus hidden brad nails behind the nosing on every tread, glues the riser caps in place, and finishes with color-matched caulk so there are no visible gaps. Done right, a laminate staircase is quiet, scratch-resistant, and gives guests a warm wood-look impression the moment they walk in - whether it's an older two-story in Ghent or a new build going up in Suffolk.
